How long is a reasonable time to have Christmas lights on while being environmentally friendly?

I’m ‘making’ a green city and I want to include having Christmas lights on for a certain about of time to save electricity. How long do you think is reasonable? From dark to 3 hours after dark? From 1 hour before dark to 4 hours after dark?
