Copyright laws & penalties for getting caught with copied DVDs / CDs?

I wouldn't believe him. The law might change in different places, but here in England I don't think it's illegal to have copied DVDs, it's only illegal to download or distribute pirated media. Just having it on a disc is probably not enough to condemn you.
