Is it normal for boxwood shrubs to get yellow leaves during winter.?

I planted boxwoods last year and they grew great and were healthy last fall. Now in the spring the upper portions of their branches are yellow and the lower parts are green still. Do I need to prune off the dead yellow parts or will they come back to life? I am in Iowa so the winter was pretty cold and the bushes were covered in snow alot.
